Microsoft Office Product Stuck on Opening in Protected View

Question:
How do I open a Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel 2010 or 2013 file that is stuck at a screen titled Opening in Protected View?
Answer:
To open the file perform, one or more of the following
Method 1 : Unblock the document (Recommended)
  1. Right-click on the saved document
  2. Select Properties
  3. Ensure the General tab is selected
  4. Locate Security: This file came from another computer and might be blocked to help protect this computer.
  5. Click Unblock
  6. Click OK

Method 2 : Disable Protected View for Word, Excel, PowerPoint in Office 2013 & 2010 (You need to do this specifically for the relevant office program such as Word, Excel, or PowerPoint.)
  1. Open Microsoft Word, Excel, or PowerPoint
  2. Click File
  3. Select Options
  4. Click Trust Center
  5. Click Trust Center Settings
  6. Click Protected View
  7. Uncheck the first 3 options from the right panel
  8. Click OK
  9. Close and reopen the Office program

Method 3 : Disable Protected View for Word, Excel, PowerPoint in Office 2013 & 2010 (You need to do this specifically for the relevant office program such as Word, Excel, or PowerPoint.)
  1. Open Microsoft Word, Excel, or PowerPoint
  2. Click File
  3. Select Options
  4. Click Trust Center
  5. Click Trust Center Settings
  6. Select File Block Settings
  7. Click Restore Defaults
Note: This also happens if the file is opened through a browser, instead of saving the file to a standard folder like Downloads or Documents.
